yep.it exposes its data via an Application Programming Interface (API), so developers can interact in a programmatic way with the yep.it website. This document is the official reference for that functionality. The current API version is 0.1 and must be considered as early Beta stage of development.

Sample generation of the URL. With the command ?url= the short URL is created with a random tag of automatic 5 chars text:
  http://yep.it/api.php?url=URL

Extended generation of the URL. With the addiction of command &tag= your URL can have a personalized tag (maximum 8 alphanumeric chars):
  http://yep.it/api.php?url=URL&tag=TAG

Track the URL clicks. With the tag (automatically created or personalized one), you can track the clicks of your short URL with the ?track= command:
  http://yep.it/api.php?track=http://yep.it/TAG or
  http://yep.it/api.php?track=TAG
The output will be:
  http://yep.it/tag (20)

Check the URL content. With the tag (automatically created or personalized one), you can check the content of your short URL with the ?check= command:
  http://yep.it/api.php?check=http://yep.it/TAG or
  http://yep.it/api.php?check=TAG
The output will be:
  Short URL: http://yep.it/tag
  URL: http://real_url_inserted
  Content: Real_URL_title_and_contents

Make it easy to generate yep URLs for any page you are visiting with your browser.

1. Setup: Drag the following link to your browser's toolbar (or right mouse click and make the link a Bookmark or Favorite):
     YEP that URL!
2. When you are viewing a page for which you want to make a yep URL, simply click the 'YEP that URL!' bookmarklet in your toolbar (or Favorites).
3. A new window will be opened showing you the yep URL which was generated for the page you were visiting.

You can save Short URL in preview mode through the Clipboard function, when the URL is generated, using the command Copy as Preview; both via web interface and/or Bookmarklet
